Shadow Minister for Disability visits GIFSA
Comprehensive Respite (Brokerage Funding)
GIFSA provides brokering access to respite and community access with funding being paid directly to the primary care giver. The Respite Brokerage Service provides respite and support opportunities for individuals with a disability and/or their carers in the family home.
This service supports people who need care and their carers to continue to live at home, by providing opportunities for both individuals and their carers to take a break. Services may be provided in the individual’s own home, ranging from a few hours a week to overnight care or in GIFSA’s respite house.
Respite provides supports to Carers and allows them to have a break from this role. It is provided through a wide range of activities / services / supports offered to and engaged in by people with disabilities and their families.
Respite should also provide a positive experience for the person with a disability. Support may be formal or informal – direct or indirect and may be provided in the home or out of the home. The source of primary care remains with the family / community.
